COMPANY PROFILE
Qiviuk is the inner down of the Canadian Arctic Muskox.
It is a fiber of exceptional quality. Noticeably softer
and lighter than cashmere, and 8 times warmer than wool.
The Muskox is one of the Arctic's most valuable resources.
The muskox is a prehistoric animal, still alive and thriving
today. Their survival through the last ice age was largely
due to their remarkable coat. An outer layer (the guard
hair sometimes as long as 24 inches) and inner layer, shield
them from minus 50 degree C temperature. Because of their
shaggy coats, muskoxen appear to be massive animals; in
fact, they rarely grow more than chest high to a human.
In May, when arctic temperature begins to rise, muskoxen
shed their inner coats, and the tundra becomes littered
the precious fleece.
With proper care and protection they have made a steady
comeback, both in numbers and in occupied range. The herds
are monitored by the Canadian government, protected by the
Inuvialuit Group of the Northwest Territories, and managed
in a way that combines tradition and sustainability, ensuring
their unthreatened existence.
In consideration of our commitment and experience in Qiviuk,
the Inuvialuit organizations have selected us to exclusively
acquire, process, design and manufacture their precious
Qiviuk fiber and deliver it to the world. Our expertise
in other fibers such as Vicuña, Guanaco and our own
Heavenly Alpaca and Golden Crown Suri were instrumental
in the development of this alliance.
Her Majesty The Queen of England, her Majesty the Queen
of Sweden, Mr & Mrs. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the R. Honorable
Stephen Harper, Her Excellency Adrianne Clark, Francis Ford
Copola, Vogues Anna Wintour and His Holiness the Dalai Lama
are among the many celebrities that have included one of
our beautiful garments in their wardrobe.
